Ashley's Halo Engagement Ring
One of the less unusual commissions that I have made over my career, but also one of the most praised for by my colleagues. Its one thing for someone outside of the jewellery trade to compliment a piece that you have made, but its a different thing to be complimented by your colleagues in the trade.
I have made quite a few halo rings since I started making jewellery, there was a time that I even considered it my forte. Usually routine and repetition result in the same style of ring being done the exact same way, with no improvement on the previous iteration. This ring had some small, almost unnoticeable differences that made it more attractive which I am proud to say that I came up with. Some of these differences are in the basket (or spider) and in the method for attaching the 'V' claw to result in a more rigid setting. There are other small differences which aren't worth mentioning here but the point stands: A craftsman should always seek to better both himself and his work.
