The Red Gold Geode ring is electroplated in three-micrometre gold. With daily use, the gold slowly erodes, revealing the subtle colour changes of the underlying sterling silver.
Plating or gilding jewellery has been a method of embellishing for thousands of years. Originally fine gold would have been combined with mercury to form an amalgam, which would then be applied to the metal to be gilded, finally the mercury is volatilized and the gold burnished.
Each piece of jewellery is hand-crafted in our workshop in London, Hatton Garden, with excessive attention to detail going into the final product. The result is an awesome piece of jewellery, meant to be worn daily that develops with age, becoming unique to the owner.
